Hey all. I just saw this article and thought it applicable to our little group discussion here:
Personality Secrets in Your MP3 Player.
I completely agree with the premise of this article (except for the fact that 57% talk about music and 38% talk about everything else combined… does that mean that 5% just sit in slack-jawed silence?)… But here is my question to you…
Do you judge people on their taste in music? I know it's one of the top five questions I ask a conversation partner and I will usually form a pretty strong opinion on them based on their answer (not that all these opinions are necessarily bad) and I have walked away from people when the answer was bad enough.
Yeah. I’m a bad person. Tell me your sins.

I judge people by their taste in music, but it's a complicated formula. The main consideration is how broad is the range of music they enjoy...being a fan of one main genre is okay, but if someone is asked "what kind of music do you listen to?" and the response is just something like "i like the ataris" (as m's coworker might say), that's not a good sign in my book. Any answer to the question is definitely better than a "whatever..." (as an intern of mine may have once answered), though. If someone can't even articulate what type of music they enjoy, I'm definitely concerned.
Another important consideration is once bands start being listed, how well known are the person's favorites. If I've heard of every single band you list (unless they're all of my favorites and then I'm already planning trips to shows in my head) because it's what's being played on the radio or it's the top seller on iTunes, that's also not a good sign. I feel like just about everyone enjoys listening to some kind of music, so if you're only listening to what's popular, it's very possible you are a lazy person. It takes very little effort to stumble upon very good bands not getting airtime or making Amazon's top seller list. If you've never searched around on the internet or tracked down the album from a random opening band you heard once, then we might not be the same kind of people.
...as for the article...country music fans are not emotionally stable people....
